Biography in Brief:


Dr. Lu Sun's research interests include (1) wave propagation in solids, random vibration, structural dynamics, elastodynamics inverse problem, non-destructive testing and evaluation; (2) transportation infrastructure management and information systems, highway and airport pavement design and performance modeling; (3) transportation systems: intelligent transportation systems, network routing, traffic forecasting, traffic flow theory and simulation, transportation safety; (4) applications of operations research, statistical science and data mining to credit scoring, financial risk and portfolio management, and transportation engineering. Dr. Sun's research has attracted $1.9 million federal research grants and $2.0 million consulting projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation and other agencies. He has co-authored a monograph and published more than 50 journal articles. Dr. Sun serves as a referee for twelve journals in his field, a proposal reviewer for four NSF panels, and a member of INFORMS, ASCE, and ITE. He was a first prize winner of China Mathematics Contest in Modeling (MCM 1992) and a recipient of Honorable Mention in the 9th International MCM (1993), National Best Dissertation Award of China (1999), ARTBA Best Student Paper Award (2000), Kaman Research Award (2006), Changjiang Scholar Professorship (2006), CAREER Award of National Science Foundation (2006), and University Provost Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarship (2007).
